Mineral Make-up is the Answer
Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Did you all know that the latest innovation of the make-up world is mineral make-up? Yes, mineral make-up is the newest addition to an upcoming beauty culture that emphasizes on better living. Women who have experienced minerals, are going absolutely daft over the latest trend. The simplest reason why mineral make-up has swept away that number one spot is for one simple reason and that is, it is natural. Mineral make-up products are safe for your skin. It does not clog your pores, nor does its make you feel like you have a mask on. Mineral make-up does not contain chemicals that are harmful for the skin like perfumes, talc, alcohol, dyes, mineral oil or preservatives. It is free from fragrances and preservatives that irritate your skin. On the contrary, it is comprised of ingredients that are helpful to the skin. It is based on hypoallergenic loose powder that nourishes the skin naturally. Mineral make-up is not only about looking good, it is about looking good and feeling good.
Skin experts are more than happy with the advent of mineral make-up because it is their answer to women who struggle with acne, clogged pores (black heads), allergies, dry skin from the use of harsh, perfumed make-up. Mineral make-up consistency is lighter than traditional make-up and is breathable even if you apply layers of it on your face.
There are hundreds of brands out there selling mineral make-up and there are brands which mix the hypoallergenic key mineral ingredient with chemicals and sell them saying it is pure mineral make-up. One needs to be careful while choosing a good mineral make-up and see that the greater percentage of ingredients used in the make-up is mineral based. Otherwise you just might end up buying the same old chemical stuffed make-up at an exorbitant price! Only brands like Isadora and few others confidently declare openly that they use 100% minerals. Isadora Mineral make-up is based on 100% minerals and since Isadora sells only fragrance free and clinically tested cosmetic products, it is not surprising that the mineral make-up range is pure 100% minerals. The prices are absolutely reasonable knowing that it is based 100% on natural minerals. If you are someone who is gradually turing into a mineral make-up fanatic, or someone who just wants to try out what mineral make-up feels on your skin, just feel free to go down to Isadora showroom in Durbar Marg opposite Teen Dhara Pathshala, Kathmandu and test the products with the help of our beauticians. Or if you live outside Kathmandu then you can always check Isadora mineral make-up products at www.isadora.muncha.com
Be a mineral make-up user and give your skin a breather!!
Want a natural, spotless look? Here’s how
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010Use a foundation brush, sponge or clean fingertips (I would recommend a foundation brush) to apply foundation evenly to your cheeks, chin, forehead and nose. Then blend the foundation in with long light strokes.
Keep on making light strokes over the jawline down to your neck to get a natural texture with no visible lines between two strokes. Now check your face and neck in natural light to see that the foundation is well blended.
If the under eye circles or red spots are still visible then don’t add more foundation as this will make your lids look heavy and curdled. To avoid this and yet have your under eye circles and red spots well covered, use a concealer instead.
Tip
It is very important for you to choose the foundation that compliments your skin tone. When you are testing out shades, make sure to pick out a shade that matches the colour of your jawline exactly. It is better to use a mirror outdoor to see how the shade looks in natural light.
Always start by using a small amount of foundation and gradually increase the amount depending upon how much you want to cover your skin. Remember blending tactfully is the key.
For day make-up, mix your foundation with a moisturizer having at least 15 SPF. For women above 30 a moisturizer with an SPF of 30 is essential.

The Pursuit of Beauty – Colour Trends in Facial Make-up Then & Now
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010Facial make-up since time immemorial has been the crux of every woman’s pursuit of beauty. The character of a face is enhanced beyond any doubt when accentuated with the right amount and the right type of make-up. Cosmetic brands all over the world have, and are continuously endeavouring to attain a certain level of precision with their products that may befit the desires of today’s woman.
Be it the unforgettable queen of Egypt, Cleopatra’s pursuit of precision with dark earthy colours, or the late 1500 Baroque era’s pale chalked look, make-up trends down the years have left indelible impressions.
One can hardly forget the sharp precisely lined eye make-up and the perky red lip make-up that Audrey Hepburn became synonymous with, in the mid forties and fifties. In a similar way make-up styles have created trends upon trends with the passage of time. For example, during the 30s and 40s the prima donnas of Hollywood emphasized on luscious red lips and notably thin eyebrows which according to the time was the ideal for creating an idyllic, mushy look. The 60s and 70s brought the youthful, flowery look of the liberated hippies. This era highlighted both on floral patterns and bright colours as well as deeply intensified eye make-up with dark colours that went along with the disorganized sort of clothing of the time. Both make-up and clothing of that time spoke amply of freedom for movement in large volumes.
Make-up trend of the 80s and 90s was modeled to fit women who became increasingly active in business and in political world. Precisely cut high quality clothing together with slightest make-up using stark earthy colours that brought out a professional yet a sophisticated look became the order of the day. It was probably at the time that the platform for day-makeup and evening make-up was set. Day make-up being minimal with soft colours while evening make-up being brighter and deeper with darker and richer colours.
Make-up trends continuously keep changing and evolving with an attempt to achieve a greater and better look that goes along with the times we live in. The most interesting aspect of make-up trends down the ages have been that irrespective of what part of the world we have lived in, the wave of the most accepted trend initiated in some corner of the world, has spread the around the world in the about the same sphere of time. In other words, women around the world are more or less in sync with one another through the medium of make-up trends. Women following latest trend in make-up is growing progressively around the world today.
Colours based on metal colours with shimmery consistence that created an out-of-the -world look was triggered off into becoming the latest colour trend during the dawn of the millennium. Covering the face and the body with bronze powder creating a healthy shine both on the face and the body, began during the millennium. This particular trend based on golden, silver, bronze colours have set a new standard becoming the best worn evening make-up.
Our sense of beauty and the beautiful have indeed changed since the beginning of time, and the ways of acquiring such an effect that fits aptly with the modern trend has become even more diversified with the introduction of seasonal colour trends. Big make-up brands like Chanel, Lancomé, Helena Rubenstein, Estee Lauder, IsaDora, M.A.C, Clinique, Shisiedo, Max Factor and many more have based their colour trends representing four different seasons of the year with colours that compliment all skin types and all skin colours around the world. Today, make-up colour range changes four times a year with each season celebrating a particular colour and style of make-up. Cosmetic companies have their own representation of the season but there is a standard set of colours that they all follow for a particular season nevertheless.

Spring make up 2009
For example spring make-up 2009 was all about clarity, softness with a shade of fantasy. Cosmetic companies at the time released softer pastel collections for the eyes. Violet colour for the eyes was promoted to create a smokey look that usually befit all skin tones. Spring 2009 was all about making the skin look natural, untouched, in order to emphasize the beautiful smokey eye-make up or a strong lip make-up. For summer of 2009, it was bold and bright with eye make-up, so colours like magnetic violets, solid blues, and affectionate greens were the standard colours of the eyes. Coloured moisturizers with good SPF value against the summer sun that was perfect for all skin types were in vogue. Fall 2009 called upon the colours of the earth and the forest, creating a dark deep look with just a touch of golden, chrome hint. The colours of the fall came straight out from the artist’s palette giving a bohemian effect with moss green, rich gold, turgid grey, deep clay and so on .
This winter, the trend is based on the snowy light colour of winter so a lot of light frosted colours are the colours of winter 2009. The snow fairy like look is the look of Christmas holidays 2009 with soft shades of sparkling pinks and purples that are complimenting to all eye colours around the globe.

Snow Fairy Trend Holiday 2009
Similarly nail and lip colours comprise of frosty winter colours representing colours of frost and snow. Thus glistening pinks, light frosted purples, and frosted snowy whites are the colours for winter 2009.
Colour trends in facial make-up following different seasons have thus become instrumental in bringing out different facets of today’s woman. The seasonal colour changes in make-up tradition has revolutionized make-up trends in a major sort of way that, now facial make-up is much more based on colours of the seasons rather than one look of the year. So whether it is the natural fresh look of spring or the bohemian rhapsodic face of the fall or the snow fairy countenance of winter, make-trend based on seasonal colours is definitely here to stay!

How to get Smoky Eyes
Tuesday, January 5th, 2010Smoky Eye make-up has always been popular and will continue to remain on the top half of the list on make-up trends. So how do you get smoky eye effect? Well it is easy if you have the right kind of eye make-up kit. If you are standing in front of your mirror and wondering how to get a smoky eye make-up, grab your make-up kit, print this out and give it a go!
1. Firstly, wipe your eyelids dry. The trick is to keep the oil away and prevent the eye shadow from concentrating on the crease of your eyelid. For this, usually primers are used but if you are in a place where primers are not accessible like here in Nepal then you can dab some of oil control compact powder to keep the shadow intact for a longer period of time.

2. Depending upon what kind of smoky eye make-up you want (black, brown or grey) use eye pencil on both your upper and lower lid. Note that the eye pencil have to be as close to the lash line as possible. For smaller eyes, use eyeliner starting from the middle of the lid and paint a line towards the outer part of the eye. For larger eyes, use eyeliner from one corner to the other.

3. Use thin eyeshadow brush to soften the eye pencil line that you created earlier. Use a sponge tip applicator to put dark shadow directly over the pencil/liner line and smudge it lightly. You can use your finger tips if you like, if that makes you more comfortable.
4. Now, encircling the entire eye, use a lighter shadow with a wider eyeshadow brush. As you blend in the lighter shadow do it in a way that it softens and blends as it spreads outwards. This gives a well blended look. The key is to smudge outwards slowly. Then add volume giving mascara.
5. Brush away any excess shadow that has fallen below your eye with a fluffy brush and clean up the area that might look too smeared. Remember, you are the best judge. If you want a more dramatic look, add more shadow and mascara. Add more shadow, curl your lashes and add two to three coats of mascara.
6. If you want to make your eyes look larger, pull the pencil/liner line upwards while lining your lower eyelid and not from the upper eyelid. This will make your eyes larger and rounder. If you want to go for a classic smokey look, line your lips with a light lip liner and fill it with light natural coloured lipstick. For more drama however, line your lips with a dark lip contour and then fill in with deep coloured lipstick. Finally add a little bit of colour to your cheeks using light coloured blush.
7. Good luck! and don’t hesitate half way through! If you think you can, you certainly can!
